What is an Obstacle Race | Portland Personal Trainer | Part 1

Obstacle RaceObstacles races are exactly what they sound like: a race that includes obstacles.  However, these are not your average obstacles that you remember from obstacle courses you ran as a kid.  For one, they are a lot longer, ranging anywhere from three miles to marathon length, and the obstacles tend to be a lot more intense than when you were a kid.  The races are designed to test your strength, endurance, dexterity and mental drive, and do so by making you run a long way while throwing everything they can at you.The obstacles in an obstacle race can be anything from climbing a succession of walls of varying height to leaping over fire to crawling under barbed wire.  Some obstacles are of a military nature, reminiscent of things recruits do while in boot camp, while others are simply there for the challenge.  In some cases, the challenge is more mental than it is physical, such as submerging yourself in a dumpster full of ice-cold water.Whatever the course length and whatever the obstacles, obstacle races are clearly challenging and require strength, stamina, dexterity, and more than a modicum of courage.  Training for them often requires a mix of strategies, as participants need to make sure that they can not only run the entire distance of the course, but have the strength to complete obstacles as well.  Many race websites have workouts of the day (WOD) that are perfect for getting you in shape for whatever race you choose to do.The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington StreetSuite 137Portland, Oregon 97214503-953-0241
