What is a Spartan Race | Obstacle Racing Part 2 | Portland Personal Trainer

Spartan RacesSpartan Super RaceSpartan Races are one of many different kinds of obstacle races.  Founded in 2010, Spartan Races consist of three different lengths: a 3+ mile race that is called the “Spartan Sprint,” an 8+ mile race that is called the “Super Spartan,” a 12+ mile race named “Spartan Beast,” and finally a 26+ mile monster of a race called the “Ultra Beast.”  By completing all three shorter races in a single year, a participant is able to earn the “trifecta” award. The obstacles in a Spartan Race, as is the case with most obstacle races, are unpredictable and can change from race to race.  However, there are a few that tend to be in each race, such as a rope climb, wall climb, fire jump and barbed wire crawl, to name just a few.  If the participant is unable to complete one of the obstacles, there is a penalty of thirty burpees (everyone’s favorite exercise).Because of the random nature of Spartan Race obstacles, the race requires a mix of strength and stamina to complete.  It’s not enough to be strong, because you also have to run anywhere from 3 to 26 miles.  It’s also not enough to be fast, unless you want to be doing burpees the whole way.  A mixture is required.  Fortunately, the Spartan Race website has a feature called “workout of the day” which can help you prepare for the event.  The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington StreetSuite 137Portland, Oregon 97214503-953-0241
