Portland Personal Trainer | What is a quick way to increase your mile time on a track?

One of the best ways to make yourself better in all aspects of life is to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Do something you've never done before. If you want to run a faster mile on the track, you need to push yourself to run faster. Right? The key here is having a method behind your goal. The best place to increase your pace is on the straightaways.  This shouldn't be an all-out sprint. You want to be able to sustain this pace for eight 100 meter runs. Your pace should be, however, at a slightly uncomfortable pace.  Two things to keep in mind during this period in a run.  You are running at a quicker pace, so your feet should be on the track as little possible. Run on the balls of your feet and avoid allowing your heels to strike the ground.  Also, remember this. Your body will go where your eyes go.  Maintain forward eye contact instead of allowing your gaze to look down at the track. This is especially important when you come to the end and you're feeling fatigued. Once you complete each straightaway, gradually slow down and fall back into your usual pace, heel softly hitting the ground.  When you turn that last curve, and the finish is in sight, keep your eye on the prize, come up onto the balls of your feet, and hit it hard. You should feel spent when you’re done, with nothing more to give.Jessica KellyThe Art of Personal Training By Kisar Dhillon The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington Street, Suite 137Portland, Oregon 97214(503) 953-0241
