Portland Personal Training| Kettlebell Training and its Effectiveness

Many people know what a kettlebell is.  They’ve seen it used or used one themselves, swinging the weight around with enthusiasm, because, let’s face it, swinging something is more fun than lifting something.  Kettlebells are a fantastic fitness tool that we as personal trainers Portland use because you can do many of the same things traditional free-weights can do, while also expanding that repertoire and building on it to produce a more complete, balanced workout.Kettlebells found their start in Russia, where they were used in strength competitions and eventually adopted by the Russian army for strength straining uses.  In fact, a prevailing rumor is that kettlebells (along with massive amounts of steroids) were the secret weapon used by Russian Olympians to become so dominant.  While a kettlebell might not give the same amount of benefit as, say, injections of testosterone, the message is clear.  Kettlebells are helpful in building strength as well as power. And that is what makes kettlebells such a useful tool.  They help build strength, power, flexibility and cardio, claims that other weightlifting techniques cannot make.  If someone wants to use a kettlebell to increase power, they go heavy and do only a few reps.  It’s even possible to do more traditional powerlifting lifts with kettlebells, such as a clean and a snatch.  On the other hand, if a person wants to get a cardio workout in without going for a run or a bike ride, that can also be done using light kettlebells and doing lots of reps. The versatility of kettlebells is incredible.  Obviously they are best used as a dynamic tool, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be used otherwise.  It’s possible to do curls, triceps extensions, squats, rows and deadlifts with them, all exercises that are traditionally done with regular free-weights.  Combining these exercises with the cardio and power exercises means that working with kettlebells can get you quite a workout, and burn more calories than almost anything else.Kettlebells are a phenomenal tool, with unparalleled versatility.  Anything can be done with them, from dynamic, cardiovascular movements to powerlifting to traditional weight lifting, all of it fun and useful.  A kettlebell won’t make you as strong as lifting, or give you the endurance of a runner, but it will act as a fantastic supplement for whatever training regimen you currently follow. The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington StreetSuite 137Portland, Oregon 97214503-953-0241
