Portland Personal Trainer | Whole Wheat versus Regular Pasta

For pasta lovers out there, we could pretty much eat it for the rest of our days and be content and happy.  Chances are also high that the pasta we are consuming is regular, refined pasta.  While it might look and taste great, we are getting seriously gypped on nutritional value.  No need to panic, carb lovers.  While whole grain pasta might provide a chewier counterpart and taste a little different, is satisfies our nutritional needs while also satisfying us.

  1.  Whole grain pasta is packed with fiber, which regular pasta loses most of during milling.  While our body doesn't digest fiber, it helps clean us out and keep our digestive system regular.
  2. Whole grain pasta provides great portion control.  With it being rich in fiber, it not only fills us up more quickly, but it also keeps us fuller longer.  Those who eat whole grain pasta tend to weigh less than those who eat refined pasta.
  3. Whole grain pasta has fewer calories than refined pasta.  Not only does it fill you up faster and keep you fuller longer, it also keeps your calorie intake low!
While the choice is yours to make, and change can be hard, change can also be a great thing! Swap out your refined pasta for whole grain pasta to benefit from more fiber, nutrition, and satisfaction from your meals. It also depends on what your goals are too! If you are looking to really trim down and get lean, you may want to try the wheat pasta, especially if your love the regular type. Fiber is so important when this part of your food program needs to be paid attention too. If you are working with a fitness professional or Portland personal trainer, ask them for some recipes that they may have or have read in a cook book that may make the meals more satisfying. The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington Street, Suite 137Portland, Oregon 97214503-953-0241
