Portland Personal Trainer | Importance of Functional Training for Everyday Living!
There are a lot of fitness facilities that will boast that they have personal trainers that are educated in functional training, are they really? If someone comes to your facility and says that they pulled their back out picking up their shoes and they are afraid that they will not be able to do that movement again, how are you supposed to train them? This is where knowledge, education and years of experience comes into play. Yes, you can learn some of the basic moves of functional training at a seminar or workshop, but most of this is going to come from experience and training various types of clients with different wants.Functional training is all about taking a person through a series of steps that will progress them in doing motions they need to do in everyday life and not hurt themselves. If they want to take lift kitty litter out of their trunk without hurting their back, then you must train them so that those muscles and movements are bio-mechanically correct, so that does not happen to them. The same goes for picking up shoes, a piece of paper on the ground, or lifting something heavy above your head to put it in a cupboard. All of these types of movements need to be broken down into segments, just like a puzzle. There will be areas withing the movement that are strong, but there may be areas that are weak. When this happens, there is another series of training exercises that must be done so that phase is strong throughout the entire motion and the person can complete the motion in the near future.So when a Portland personal trainer says they can do functional training and are able to describe and train in this way, then I will give them the accolades then deserve. If for some reason they feel that they are not well educated or experienced in this type of training, then they should be a professional and refer that client out to a seasoned veteran who can better serve their physical fitness needs.Functional training should be a fitness component that all workout programs should address, because we are constantly lifting, pulling, pushing and rotating in everyday living. It is just a matter of time for us to pull a muscle or sprain and ankle because we were not using correct bio-mechanics when performing an everyday type of movement. We always here of the most simple moves that people do to hurt themselves, and that is why we all should practice some of the most basic movements, but make them into exercises.Thank You,Kisar S.
