Portland Personal Trainer | 3 Great Running Tips for 5K Training

Races have hit the country by storm, especially in Portland, Oregon. There is not a weekend that goes by without a race of some kind taking place. So, it’s no wonder more and more people are taking an interest in it. A great place to start is a 5k. It's the shortest of the distances, totaling 3.25 miles, and gives you a good idea if running is something you'll stay committed to. Below are some tips to get you started on your 5k training endeavor:1. Find the right shoes. Whether you pronate, supinate, have a neutral foot strike or are flat footed, there's a shoe for you. Having the right shoe for your needs will help give your foot the support it requires.2. Wear breathable clothes. Just ask any runner who has done their fair share of runs.  Chafing and lack of mobility is the enemy.3. Pace yourself. Your training runs should be at race pace or slightly faster if you're practicing sprints. Yes, a 5k is a short race, but that doesn't mean you want to take off from the starting like Usain Bolt. The last tip is to have fun! You want to enjoy the race and do your best to finish it, which is the most important thing. The next race you can figure out if you want to do for time or maybe even try a larger distance race like a 10K.The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington Street, Suite 137Portland, Oregon 97214(503) 953-0241
