Portland Oregon Personal Trainer | Recovering From a Cold, Flu or Sickness

There are all sorts of popular remedies to recover from a cold.  Some people swear by zinc tablets, some by vitamin C, others by chicken noodle soup.  When trying to get over a sickness, you should really do whatever works for you.  But there are a couple of things that you should always do when you are feeling sick, regardless of what else you may do.The first is a no-brainer: rest.  When your body is sick, it is working very hard to rid you of whatever is plaguing it.  That’s where the fever, the cough, and the headache come from.  The symptoms of a sickness are the efforts of your body to rid itself of the sickness, and the best way to help your body do that is to take it easy.  It’s hard to do, but necessary.  Getting plenty of sleep and not exerting yourself too much will do wonders to get you healthy quickly. The second is also a no-brainer: drink water.  Lots of it.  Staying hydrated is incredibly important when you are sick, and nothing is better for you than plain old water.  Tea and broth are other good options, as well as a limited amount of juice. Avoid soda and other sugary drinks, as well as too much caffeine, as it can be dehydrating. Even if you don’t feel like drinking, the reality is that if you want to get healthy quickly, you need to drink a lot of water. The key to getting healthy is to give your body what it needs.  If you have a cold and are fighting to stay alert and focused, you should just give yourself some time to rest.  Not only will you feel better doing so, but it will help to shorten the duration of the sickness.  So next time you’re sick, don’t try to power through it.  Listen to your body, address its needs, and get well soon! The Art of Personal Training by Kisar Dhillon107 SE Washington StreetSuite 137Portland, Oregon 97214503-953-0241
