Functional Training | Train for everyday activities

To train for everyday activities means, I don't want you pulling your back out when picking up the newspaper or unloading the dishwasher.  What I want is for you to be able to do the normal every day activities that you are used to doing without getting injured. The concept of functional training means that I want you to train in the way you move throughout the day. The motions that we do are twisting, bending forward, bending backwards, squatting, standing, walking, stepping, reaching, throwing, etc. You get the gist of what I am talking about. Well, I want you to train for every day movements. For example, if it is challenging to pick up the paper from the ground, then we are going have you pick up the newspaper on one leg from a distance that is between your knee and hip. When this gets easy, we will progress lower and lower until the newspaper is on the ground and you are utilizing great biomechanics.  We are training to build up the stabilizers in your body and to make sure that your core muscles are strong so they are activated when doing such movements.
